Fort Bend Family Promise Performance May 21, 2022
The Houston Tidelanders Chorus once again performed for the benefit of the Fort Bend Family Promise organization and the families they support.
The Houston Tidelanders were excited to once again host a Good Time Show (“GTS”) for Fort Bend Family Promise. The Tidelanders have a tradition of performing these family oriented shows for many years. Fort Bend Family Promise has sponsored several shows. Most recently, they sponsored our “Share a Good Time” show on May 21st, 2022.
These shows feature our family friendly a cappella barbershop repertoire but instead of stadium style seating, features tables. This cabaret style of show encourages the interaction and engagement of friends and family that can see and visit with each other.
Another distinction of this style of show is that the Houston Tidelanders act as the table’s waiters. At the Fort Bend Family Promise “Share a Good Time” show, we served water, tea, and sodas with popcorn.
“We love Family Promise! Their mission to help families on the margins and give them support with dignity is a fantastic service to the Fort Bend Community. Our last performance for Fort Bend Family Promise was in 2018. So we’re thrilled to help this worthy cause after nearly four years since our last performance here,” said Richard Howell, the Houston Tidelanders President.
We had a great show. It was awesome to see our patrons standup in a show of solidarity during some of our patriotic songs. “God Bless the USA” as it was performed by Lakeside Quartet was particularly well received. Ringside and S.L.E.D Quartets also performed songs that were very well received and enjoyed by the audience. Our Women’s (SSAA) High School Quartet Tag Contest competition winner The Kerr High School Treble Ensemble Quartet from Kerr High School also performed via recorded video.
We, the Houston Tidelanders, and all of our singers, are proud to be Americans. Our Chorus performed a Barbershop rendition of “This is My Country” and the Armed Forces Medley which is a musical composition of the songs from five of the United States military branches (in performance order):
- “Marine Corps Hymn” (Marine Corp)
- “Anchors Aweigh” (Navy Song)
- “Semper Paratus” (Coast Guard Hymn)
- “The Army Goes Rolling Along” (Army Song)
- “The US Air Force Song” (US Air Force)
We had about 128 patrons in attendance. Proceeds from ticket sales will be contributed for the benefit of Fort Bend Family Promise. We were also able to help collect some individual donations that were made directly to the Fort Bend Family Promise organization.
