CONGRATS TO SPACE CITY SOUND on THeir
BHS International Competition performance
The Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS) International Chorus Competition was held in Charlotte, NC in July of 2022. The Tidelanders are proud that the city of Houston and the five-state Southwestern District (SWD) of the BHS were represented by our friends the Space City Sound Chorus. We congratulate Space City Sound on their fine performance.
qualifying for international
Space City Sound (SCS) earned the right to represent the SWD at the international contest by winning the 2019 Chorus Contest. Since the BHS International contests were cancelled in 2020 and 2021, Space City Sound waited two extra years for this appearance. During those years, Space City Sound opened their membership to singers of all genders. Thus, they became one of the first mixed choruses to compete in the BHS International Chorus Contest.
send-off event
Some members of the Tidelanders were able to attend Space City Sound’s send-off event in Houston prior to the international contest. It was clear that Space City Sound had been working hard to prepare for their upcoming performance on the International stage. They sounded great and always have excellent choreography!
DUAL MEMBERSHIP
Space City Sound’s international contest chorus has three members who also currently sing in the Tidelanders chorus – Clarke Bean, Roy Digges, and David Morris. Space City Sound also has several other dual members of both choruses who are not currently singing with the Tidelanders.
performance results
The Tidelanders congratulate Space City Sound for their stage performance. Space City Sound scored an average of 84 from each of the 15 judges, which put them 14th overall out of 37 competing choruses. This score and placement are a high achievement, considering that the chorus had 22 singers on stage, significantly fewer than most of the other choruses.
2022 RESULTS
Nashville’s Music City Chorus come in first place in the Chorus Competition. They won with a score of 95.7 and had 86 performers on stage. They performed a very entertaining parody of “Together Again” and Disney’s “Circle of Life“.
The Quartet winners were Quorum, a “long distance” quartet spanning three states. They accumulated a total of 8,462 points which translates to an average score of 94 between the Quarter Finals, Semi-Finals, and Finals.
The complete results of the International Competition can be found on the BHS 2022 International Convention website. The results include Quartet finals, Chorus finals, and the Next Generation Barbershop Varsity Quartet contest results. The summaries are complete with the music, performance, singing, and the total scores for each performer in order by average total score.
