Steve sings bass! He’s been a Houston Tidelander since March of 2020. Several public and private performances with the Tidelanders have included Steve as a part of the Chorus of performers. Those performances include “Good Time” Shows, Christmas Shows, and charity as well as community-related performances for Fort Bend Family Promise, Fort Bend ISD, Needville ISD, and the Green Beret Foundation. In addition to performing for the Tidelanders, this year (2022) Steve tried out for Revels Houston. Revels is a Christmas musical set in 17th century England.
He is most comfortable with singing the bass vocal part. First, because his prior musical experience is with the Trombone. Trombone players and bass singers all use the Bass clef. Like any performer, it’s true that Steve doesn’t remember all of the exact notes. He does work to improve his ability to both read and sing specific notes. Steve uses several tools including TE Tuner and voice-specific music learning tracks.
Secondly, when Steve sings bass, he finds the range involved in the bass line to be very comfortable. Head voice, mixed voice, and falsetto are concepts he’s working on improving by singings a wider range of music including rock and roll and Christian rock.
The Chorus recently elected Steve to join the Tidelanders Board of Directors for a second term. The Board accepted a nomination by the previous Marketing/PR Chair to move those responsibilities to Steve. Steve currently serves as our Marketing/PR Chairman. He executed the primary responsibility for designing and building the new version of our website. Steve worked with several other Chairmen before taking the new website live. He’s also created all of the marketing materials used for several shows.
For work, Steve is a certified information security professional. Currently, he works for Contrast Security as a Professional Services Solutions Architect.
