Do you currently sing in a church choir, a band, solo, or have sung in the past? If the answer to that is an emphatic “yes”, we’re extending a special invitation to you. The Houston Tidelanders Chorus is having a Guest Night!
Take this opportunity to learn a new song as well as some “Polecats”. You may be asking: “what exactly is a Polecat”? They are short parts from the end of songs also known as “tags”. Some barbershop songs have one, more than one, or none.
First things first, we’ll run through some introductions and talk about our plans for the evening. Next, you’ll get to hear how you sound singing with other men. We will help with pitch and explain some specific nuances associated with our style of a cappella music. Lastly, you’ll interact with and maybe get to know a few of our Member. You’ll also have the opportunity to mingle with the other guests. Snacks will be provided.
We are a well stablished and long running Barbershop a cappella chorus, founded in 1946. We are located in Houston, Texas in the Bellaire area. Guests are welcome at any and every one of our Monday rehearsals. That being said, our next special Guest Night event is scheduled for February 17, 2025.

The Tidelanders are an all male chorus that performs show tunes, hits, love songs, and Christmas favorites.
We have sung patriotic songs to open up at several of the Heroes At Home Golf Tournaments supporting the Green Beret Foundation and the U.S. Army Special Forces families. We will open up for the 7th year of this event on October 21, 2024.
We produce and perform annual Christmas shows. For 2024, we will host two Christmas shows for the public: Fishers of Men Lutheran Church on December 7 and Windwood Presbyterian Church in Northwest Houston on December 14. We will participate in the Needville H.S. Choir Performance on December 16. This event is open to residents in the Needville area.
We have won District Championships 19 times and placed in the top 10 in International Competition 9 times. We are proud to carry the Houston name across the Barbershop Harmony Society.
We perform a variety of our full repertoire that includes show tunes, patriotic, recent hits, love songs, and more. Our evening shows include food and drinks! We will perform a Clear Lake GTS in 2025 with both a Saturday Matinee and a Saturday evening show.
We support the musical arts in the Houston area. In 2024, we will participate at Crockett Middle School in Richmond on September 13, and Stephen F. Austin H.S. in in Sugar Land on November 14. We present an annual Barbershop Quartet Tag Contest. In 2025 that contest will be open for grades 6-12 in the Houston area.
