Quartets
GQ (GirlQuartet) is a female barbershop a cappella and contemporary quartet from Baltimore, MD. Amanda Sandroni, Ali Hauger, Katie Gillis, and Katie Macdonald are four great friends that started singing together in July 2011. Since then, they have won international competitions, performed their own arrangements of contemporary songs, and recorded two albums.
GQ has a passion for developing and fostering a sound that is uniquely their own. They believe in the vocal music education of young and youth-in-harmony singers. They have served as guest teaching clinicians for many Youth Harmony Camps. Each member is involved in music education and is pursuing her own career in the arts and education.
They have traveled around the U.S. and have performed in Canada, Germany, Holland, Spain, and England. They have been featured on “A Prairie Home Companion” twice, and have had a whopping 6.7 million hits on one of their YouTube videos.
In addition to their success in Sweet Adelines International, GQ has won other awards, including two Best Original Arrangements for Mumford & Son’s Timshel (National Harmony Sweepstakes and Mid-Atlantic Harmony Sweepstakes in 2012). They won two 2013 ACA Awards for Favourite Barbershop Group and Favourite Group without Vocal Percussion.
Their first album, GQ, won them a 2013 Barbershop Barbie Award and two 2013 CARA Awards for Best Album and Best Barbershop Song for Ebb Tide. In 2015 they won their second Barbershop Barbie award as ‘Most Likely to Succeed’.
