About Us
We are a men’s a cappella singing chorus specializing in the barbershop style of musical singing. We perform multiple shows throughout our home city of Houston during the year. We’ve been helping men sing and learn to sing better since we were founded in 1946.
Our Mission
Our Chorus and quartets, by performing 4-part barbershop harmony, will enhance the lifestyle and culture of our entire Greater Houston community. We will provide wholesome entertainment, bond diverse people through the joy of singing, and support vocal music education with youth programs. We will achieve the highest possible level of musical enjoyment and entertainment excellence.
Our Vision
With a vision statement of Harmony Across Houston, we strive to use our singing talents to bring Houstonians together and to make Houston a better place to live. We do this by offering our performances to community interests and to fund our operation.
A Cappella Chorus
We sing unaccompanied or a cappella. Our organization is comprised of Quartets and our performing Chorus.
Beyond Houston
The Tidelanders have been active in the Greater Houston community for 75 years. As a result, it is estimated that we reach at least 5,000 people a year through our performances and our outreach activities.
Competition
The Tidelanders have a long tradition of a capella singing in the Houston area. We've also won 17 District Championships and placed in the top 10 at International Competitions 9 times. We sponsor an annual High School a cappella competition. We are proud to carry the Houston name across the Barbershop Harmony Society.
Membership
Our members are genuinely nice guys that love having guests rehearse with us. Above all, we strive for membership diversity and to recruit quality singers.
Harmony Music Style
We don’t sing just old “chestnuts” from the early 1900’s. For example, we perform modern show tunes, Broadway hits, country and western, Gospel, and pop songs. We have members that arrange modern songs for our performances.
Hire Us
The Tidelanders perform at local benefits, church functions, schools, hospitals, as well as shows we produce. Our Chorus or Quartets are for hire!
